Abstract

The study was done to identify the highschool students knowledge level about the inf ectional pathway, symptom, prevention, treatment of tuberculosis, and their attitudes toward it.
The data were collected from 488 students through a structured questionnaire from Feb. 17 to Feb. 22 in 1997.
The data were analyzed by operating SPSS Computer Program. The results of the study were as follows

1. In the general characteristics, more than half of respondents were male students(51.O%), born in Seoul(74.6%), living in a nuclear family size(87.9%), and occupying his/her own room(75.8%).
2. In their knowledge, they learn about tuberculosis through TV (31.1 % ), More or less than half of them have the knowledge on its infection pathway, symptom, prevention, treatment of tuberculosis.
3. The tuberculin skin test had a significant difference in their parents job(X2==
19.0035, p<.05), and the ownerships of housing (X2=14.0145, p<.05).
4. The knowledge on the institution for treatment had a significant difference in
their parents¢¥ educational background (X2=37.7575, p<.05, X2=36.1028, p
<.05, and mothers¢¥ job X¢¥=37.7575 P<.05).
5. The knowledge on the pathway of tuberculosis infection showed a significant difference in their parents¢¥ job (X2= 41.7440 p<.01, X¢¥-60.5483 p<.001), and the ownerships of housing (X2=22.2731, p<.Ol).
